Africa’s greatest visionaries
reign in The Sun Met 2020

The Sun Met 2020 took on the Kenilworth Racecourse to deliver another star-dazzling horseracing event.

The 2020 edition of The Sun Met hosted a splendid cast of talent from media mogul and face of the Sun Met, Bonang Matheba. Queen B, as she’s affectionately known, brought her signature beverage, House of BNG, as the Official Celebration Partner to the event. The immaculate MCC added sparkle to the day’s festivities as racegoers enjoyed a wide array of entertainment.

This year’s theme, African Luxury: Visionaries, heralded a new generation of creatives, influencers, and innovators to grab hold of the future. The event attendees took ownership of the theme and interpreted it into their outfits. The Red Carpet hosted some of the country’s biggest names and was the platform for all Visionaries to escape boundaries and capture their wildest imaginations.

SAMA-winning artist Holly Rey performed a special acoustic set to capture the theme in song. Not to be outdone by the entertainers, winning horse “One World” brought home the R3 000 000 first prize to jockey M Byleveld and trainer Vaughn Marshall’s joy. The celebration of their win at the Winner’s Circle was made even more special when Sun International CEO Anthony Leeming and Bonang handed over a yet-to-be-released bottled of her House of BNG Reserve MCC among the winner’s well-deserved trophies.

The Entertainment Marquee was abuzz during the event day with the Fashion Show, Best-Dressed Competition, and the Official Sun Met After-Party. ImprintZA and Masa Mara opened the fashion show with their show-stopping African inspired designs while the headline designer, Palesa Mokubung, closed out the fashion during the day.
