A Bucket List
of 5 Must-do Things in Cape Town

Consistently ranked as one of the top cities to visit in the world, planning your trip to Cape Town can seem overwhelming – there's simply so much to see. With some local input, we've put together a bucket list of 5 must-do things in Cape Town.

Kirstenbosch picnic and concert

Taking place from the end of November until the beginning of April, the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts feature a selection of local and international acts across genres, including classical, pop, folk and more. Tickets include entrance fees, so you are able to wander through these world-famous gardens ahead of time. Pack a picnic basket and watch the sunset over the mountains while taking in some of SA's finest music.

Go up Table Mountain

No matter how you choose to do it – by cable car or by foot – you can't visit the city and not tick off your bucket list one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Set aside some time to spend at the top, taking in the views from every angle and enjoying a bite to eat at the restaurant. The hike can be challenging, if you are contemplating tackling it by foot – so remember to take the necessary precautions and prepare accordingly.

The Sun Met celebrated with Mumm

Cape Town's premier horse-racing event, the inaugural Sun Met celebrated with Mumm is set to be a riot of colour, glamour – and OTT hats. As Africa's richest horse race, it's the perfect excuse to mingle with Cape Town's socialites and pull out that glamorous dress from the back of your cupboard.

Sun and penguins on Boulders Beach

Where else can you experience the bright, African sun – and a colony of penguins-with-attitude? Getting their name from the donkey-like braying, and not, because they have unpleasant personalities, the local jackass penguins are loved by locals and visitors alike. Part of the Table Mountain National Park, the protected area has an entrance fee, but allows you to get up close and personal with these unique creatures and take a dip in the ocean.

Watch the sun go down from Signal Hill

Surrounded by nature, with endless views over the horizon, it's difficult to imagine you're in the middle of a metropolitan city. Signal Hill is a perennial favourite for spectacular sunsets. Pack a few snacks, take a few selfies and prepare for one of the finest skyscapes you'll ever see.
